Open Education Challenge Series 2

About the Open Education Challenge Series

10 challenges that take 10 minutes or less to complete

5 weeks of challenges

Ready, set, GO!

BCcampus is hosting an open education challenge series for faculty interested in learning more about open education practices (OEP).  This series is a fun way to get a taste of  OEP – over the course of 5 weeks we will release 2 challenges per week.  A challenge is micro activity that you can do in 10 minutes or less that will cover a small aspect of open education.  The series starts on Monday, Oct 5, 2020 and ends on November 9, 2020.

Who is this for?

This is for faculty who are completely new to open education. You might have heard about OER, open textbooks, and perhaps even open pedagogy but if you don’t know where to find them  or how to use or create them, then this is for you.  This isn’t a bootcamp or crash course in open education, it’s more of a tasting buffet of appetizers, designed to allow even the most time-constrained  faculty to participate.

What can I expect?

When you sign up for the series (limited seat registration closes on September 30, 2020) you will receive a welcome email and a link to a form. The form will ask you a few questions about your knowledge of open education.  Each week you will receive a challenge in your email on Mondays and Thursdays.  It will be labeled OE Challenge Series, so be sure to make sure it doesn’t end up in your junk folder. All challenges and recaps will also be posted on this website.

There will be a post for each of the 10 challenges and at the end of each week, Leva and I will do a recap of each challenge .  You will share your response to each challenge  in the comments section of each challenge.   This is also where we will be tabulating completers, and if you complete the challenges for the week you will be entered into a draw for a weekly prize.

All participants who complete all of the 10 challenges will receive a prize at the end, if you are one of the first 50 in BCPSE to register (see FAQ below).

Sign me up!

Register here before September 30, 2020.  There will be prizes, but note that only the first 50 registrants from B.C. public post-secondary institutions and who reside in B.C. are eligible for Challenge prizes.
Use an email that you commonly use, and make sure you check your junk folder. You may need to look in the junk folder occasionally during the series, as some institutional emails may flag it.

FAQ

Can I sign up even if I’m not new to open?

Yes, of course, but please try and bring along someone who is. This series is about generating more awareness about open education.
Why do only BC participants qualify for prizes?

Well, there’s a budget for prizes and since this is a BCcampus sponsored event we are promoting it with BC PSE.  However, we want to be as inclusive as possible and that’s why we welcome participation from anywhere and anybody.
